It was the only thing on the registry that my nephew wanted. He was so happy to see that we got it for him/them. He loves it!Worked well. Held the cold, good room. Like the solid handles. One thought for making it better is that Pelican should add a handle for opening the cooler. You have to loosen and lift the latches and then use an open latch to lift the lid. Did not fail, but will not be surprised when it does. May have to make an 'improvement'.The Cooler arrived a head of schedule-awesome. Filled cooler and it leaked around drain. The two part seal hadn't been turn tight enough to compress the seal to cooler. had to remove locking screw turn the outer part two full turns to seal & align screw hole up. after that no leaks. We were on a 5 day trip the ice blocksin the cooler were still 70% solid when we got home. Love the lid locks so much better than the rubber pull ones.Doesn’t keep ice as long as stated, but will keep the ice water freezing long enough not to matterBest cooler ever! Super tough good as a work cooler shop cooler what ever you want. I would buy another one but I honestly won't have to name and price speak for itself. QualityThis is my 4th or 5th Pelican, and they keep getting better. No problems aside from a broken latch on one of my first ones, from when one of my friend's crotch goblins slammed the lid down. Called Pelican, and they told me demon semen who are off their Ritalin is covered damage. They sent me a brand new latch in a couple days, with an extra one for the next time one of these little crib lizards tears one up. Which is nice of them, cause when I whapped that little condom commercial on her butt and rubbed her nose on the broken latch, it made Pop Pop's memorial service a little tense and Gram Gram started crying. My buddies wife threatened divorce if he didn't stand up to me for correcting his seminal misfire, and he told her she could leave as soon as he called the other guy she's been sleeping with to come pick her and her stuff up. They fought on the way out of the funeral home. I think they really are getting divorced.I told the little hump dumpling *that* was her fault, too. But, yeah, they're great coolers. Good company. Would buy. This Made in the USA Heavy Duty cooler is GREAT. About $100 less expensive than the competition, and not made overseas, as well as having a lifetime warranty as compared to 5 years. This 70 (actual size) QT cooler is quite bulky and large. We used it to store frozen hamburger, about 30# of it, and other stuff, while we were on vacation for 20 days, camping up and down the California coast, temperatures ranging from the mid 70's to the century mark the whole trip, and the hamburger on the bottom of the cooler was still good when we got home, although it had defrosted almost completely by that time. We did add ice to this 3-4 times during the trip, that is 3-4 total bags of 8# ice, and stored other items in it as well, it was opened several times every day, and by the middle of the trip (7-10 days in) it was not full of food to the top any more and that's when we started adding ice. Up until then it was just the frozen hamburger keeping it cold. The bottle opener was pretty much useless, there are 100's of ways to open bottles, and everyone has one, so this feature was unused. I like the latches, they are secure, hold the lid tightly and firmly, and are easy to use, especially if you have only one hand free. The large roomy handles made it really easy to lift in and out of my box trailer with 2 people. The garden hose thread drain was useful for draining out ice and not getting nasty water where you don't really want it. I locked this with a padlock a few times, and found this feature useful as it was being stored most of the time in by open box trailer. I did not use the tie downs as they are kinda small and you have to thread your tie downs through under the lid, it would be nice if you could just put a hook through them. The can holes in the top of the cooler are deep and work great to keep your can or bottle very stable, it is nice that they can be rinsed out cleanly because of the deep drains in them too. We camped in Yosemite, and had this in the back of our Suburban. This was a mistake, as a bear could easily have gotten into the vehicle and tried to get to the food in the chest. One of the Site Hosts, told us that we were lucky. Being Bear resistant doesn't matter much to the park service, this cooler is NOT bear certified, and even if it was, as it is the same design as the ones that are, the parks require it to be locked in a Bear Box. Do not think that this is good enough to not use the park provided bear protection in Yosemite, or Yellowstone. You still have to put it in a Steel Bear Box, which would have been nearly impossible because of it's large size. If you are looking for a one size fits all solution to your traveling food and beverage storage needs, I would strongly recommend looking at the smaller boxes. This 70QT box is too big for daily use in the back of your truck, unless you intend to throw a party every day.Used the cooler to move frozen items and it worked wonderful. It kept them frozen soild no worry of food going bad.I bought this for $400cdn and I think for the price it is good. It holds ice for a very long time.Couple things to note on the positive.- Very sturdy you feel like it is well made- Holds Ice a very long time (left closed)- Latching locks are very nice- Works VERY well for sitting on it is actually comfortableCouple difficulties- This size is too big to fit through doors sideways it needs 2 people to move it comfortably (Not the coolers fault of course)- Full it is VERY heavy 2 person lift for sure (again not docking points just good to know)- Really could use wheels- The gasket on the inside doesn't inspire confidence it folds over itself on one side and is difficult to get nice and flat-This is an amazing cooler and the build quality and overall design are fantastic. It has sat outside in the sun and has held ice (5 regular bags) for 8+ days. I've been in the photography industry for over two decades and Pelican is a trusted brand for storing and transporting gear. I'm very happy to report that their coolers live up to the quality I've come to expect. I can't recommend this cooler enough and would give it a strong recommendation to anyone looking for a 'lifetime' cooler that won't need replacing anytime soon. Well worth the money.First off, this cooler is awesome! Had it packed FULL of ice and food for a 5 day fishing trip in about 30C weather (stored in the shade whenever possible) and it performed beautifully! Stuff never thawed out and still have ice left at the end of the week. When i got home i emptied everything except the ice out just to see how much longer it would last and after 3 more days (in direct sun this time) the ice was finally gone. Cant speak highly enough of the performance, if you are lookingfor a great cooler for that fishing or camping trip this is the one you want. The construction is heavy duty, it would be breaking anytime soon; heavy latches, hinges, big rubber bottom feet, thick walls, the drain is held on with stainless CABLE, not cheap plastic. Top cup holders are awesome, and it has measuring notches for measuring that big catch. Also it came with a sticker and a poster! Both things my kid loved! Now the cons: its big! The pictures dont really do it justice, the thing is huge. Much bigger than a coleman or similar with the same volume. Mostly the big carry handles and thickness of the walls make it so huge. You want get this on the front of an ATV, you;ll need a side x side with a box to haul this bad boy, or a trailer.Second con: its heavy! It not bad carrying when its empty, it just so big that it gets awkward. But fully loaded, dont plan to move it very far alone. I lifted it out of the back of my pickup but that was it. needed 2 guys to move it anywhere else.Overall i love this things and would highly recommend. But if you dont NEED one this big definitely get a smaller one.Camping, Hunting etc we really wanted to upgrade our cooler to get long cold-hold times. Hence our purchase of the Pelican. The balance between keeping food cold vs weight of cooler is a tough balancing act. This is a very heavy cooler, but its built like a tank and keeps your food cold for a friggin long time and that's the point. The weight is what brings it to 4 stars but really that's the only challenge. Pretty pleased.despite the heavy price tag it was a good buy. food and drinks actually stay cold for a few days within reason temperatures obviously. pelicans ice packs fit perfect so I usually put 2 in the bottom and then a bag or two of ice. usually lasts me a weekend.I will note this one is heavy. even when its empty. if your gonna keep it In the back of your truck all weekend its great. when you gotta carry it full its a prick. so consider getting the one with wheels if its gotta be moved around a bunch.
